Memorial Foundation names Scholar Athletes of the Week for January 22

High School seniors Sydney Brinkmann from Nashville Community High School and Nicholas Norwood from Mascoutah High School were chosen as Memorial Foundation’s Scholar Athletes of the week – January 22.

The scholar athlete program, sponsored by Memorial Foundation in cooperation with Memorial Rehab and Sports Medicine and Memorial Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine recognizes one male and one female senior scholar athlete from a high school in Memorial’s primary and selected secondary service area. The weekly award winners from September 2017 through April 2018 will be eligible for one of two $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in May 2018.

Nominated by Nashville Athletic Director, Alicia Heggemeier, Sydney has a 4.0 GPA and is on the varsity volleyball team. She has been on high honor roll for three years and participates in Lifesavers, Fellowship Christian Athletes and National Honor Society.

Norwood was nominated by his counselor, Nancy Frey and his wrestling coach, Chris Lindsey, and has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the varsity wrestling team. He has been an MVC Champ 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was a state qualifier in 2017. He is an Illinois State Scholar and has completed JROTC volunteer hours.
