Memorial Foundation names Scholar Athletes for the Week of December 4

High School seniors Cecilia Maue from Belleville East High School and Max Gibbs from O’Fallon Township High School (OTHS) were chosen as Memorial Foundation’s Scholar Athletes of the Week.

The scholar athlete program, sponsored by Memorial Foundation in cooperation with Memorial Rehab and Sports Medicine and Memorial Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine recognizes one male and one female senior scholar athlete from a high school in Memorial’s primary and selected secondary service area. The weekly award winners from September 2017 through April 2018 will be eligible for one of two $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in May 2018.

Nominated by her mother, Sue Maue, Cecilia has a 4.7 GPA and is a member of the varsity soccer team. She has received 2017 Southwestern All Conference 3rd Team and Scholar Athlete Character Award the past four years. She is a 2018-2019 State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society including Science, Spanish and Math Honor Societies. She has volunteered with Make a Wish Foundation, Tour de Belleville, Granite City Military Appreciation Day and various church programs.

Max was nominated by his coach, Brandon Joggerst, he has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the varsity football and swimming teams. He has been an OTHS Scholar Athlete for three years, three time O’Fallon Progress Athlete of the Week, captain of the boys’ swim team and National Swim Meet Qualifier. He is a member of the National Honor Society including Spanish Honor Society, OTHS Leadership Council, OTHS Student of the Month and participates in Saturday Scholars. He has been active with St. Nicholas Church Youth Group and Swim Team Holiday Canned Food Drive.
